Proper training, respect for the animals, and adherence to protocols ensure a safe and unforgettable experience.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is shark diving dangerous?
While shark diving involves inherent risks, it's statistically very safe when conducted properly. Our guides have decades of combined experience, and we follow strict safety protocols. Sharks are generally not aggressive toward humans - attacks are extremely rare and usually cases of mistaken identity. With proper training, positioning, and respect for the animals, shark diving is a safe and controlled activity. We've conducted thousands of shark dives without serious incident.
Will I definitely see tiger sharks?
Tiger sharks are highly probable at Tiger Beach, especially during peak season (November-May). While we can't guarantee wildlife, Tiger Beach has one of the highest tiger shark encounter rates in the world. Most trips see multiple tigers. If conditions are poor, we'll do everything possible to maximize your chances.
Do I need special equipment?
Standard scuba equipment is all you need. We provide tanks and weights. Many divers bring underwater cameras - the photo opportunities are incredible! We recommend a wetsuit (3mm-5mm depending on season) and reef-safe sunscreen. Underwater camera rentals available if you don't have your own.
What about shark cages?
No cages! All our shark dives are open water encounters. This provides better photo opportunities and more natural shark behavior. It's perfectly safe when following guide instructions. The experience of being in open water with sharks is far more rewarding than cage diving.
Can beginners do shark diving?
This trip requires Advanced Open Water and 30+ dives. Shark diving demands good buoyancy control and composure underwater. If you're newer to diving, consider building experience first, then join us for this incredible adventure. We want you to be comfortable and safe!
What's the water temperature?
Water temperature ranges from 75-82°F (24-28°C) depending on season. Winter months (Dec-Mar) are cooler but offer best hammerhead chances. A 3mm wetsuit is usually sufficient, though some divers prefer 5mm in winter. The water is beautifully clear year-round.
Are there age restrictions?
Minimum age is 18 years. Shark diving requires maturity, experience, and the ability to remain calm in exciting situations. There's no maximum age - if you're fit enough to dive and meet the prerequisites, you're welcome! We've had divers in their 70s enjoy this trip.
What if weather cancels dives?
The Bahamas generally has excellent weather, but if conditions prevent diving, we'll reschedule or substitute alternative dive sites. We have backup plans to ensure you get your dives. In rare cases of extended bad weather, partial refunds may apply. Travel insurance is highly recommended.
